The directors cabin was a collaborative effort between the Colorado Building Workshop at the University of Colorado and the Colorado Outward Bound school. Seven cabins were built to house outward bound guides in Leadville, CO year round. The cabin was designed and constructed over the course of the Spring 16’ semester at the University of Colorado. Working in a team of four, the first month of the semester was spent designing the cabin with the remaining time allocated to prefabricating and constructing the cabin.
Our client (The executive director of the program) was looking to have his cabin be welcoming to any of his staff or clients while also signaling his presence on campus. Our team, created an outdoor living space that acts as a beacon drawing in anyone approaching the site. Because of his role in the organization, this cabin required a delicate balance of private and public space. The spaces become more private as the user walks through the cabin, allowing for privacy in the more intimate areas.
